What Are Sniffers
Sniffers Are Adorable Creatures That Can Help You Find Rare Plants in Minecraft. It is also known as the “Ancient Mob”. The Sniffer is the latest mob that is added in the Minecraft game and it is very big in size as compared to your character.
It is added in the Minecraft 1.20 version of the game which was released on the 7th June 2023.
How to Get Them
Minecraft is a game full of surprises and secrets. One of the newest additions to the game is the sniffer, a passive mob that can sniff out ancient seeds from the ground.
These seeds can grow into torch flowers or pitcher pods, which are unique decorative plants that can brighten up your world. But how do you get a sniffer in Minecraft? Unlike most mobs, sniffers don’t spawn naturally in the world.
You have to find their eggs and hatch them yourself. In this blog, we will explain everything you need to know about sniffers, including where to find their eggs, how to hatch them, what they eat, how they behave, and how to breed them.
Where to Find Sniffer Eggs
Sniffer eggs are rare items that can only be obtained in two ways: by brushing suspicious sand in warm ocean ruins, or by breeding two adult sniffers with torch flower seeds.
Suspicious Sand
Suspicious sand is a new block that can be found in warm ocean ruins, desert temples, desert well, or pyramids. You can use a brush item to clear away the sand and reveal hidden treasures, such as sniffer eggs, copper ingots, emeralds, or nautilus shells.
To use a brush, you need to craft one first. You need two sticks and one string to make a brush. Then, you need to equip it in your main hand and right-click on suspicious sand blocks.
This will remove one layer of sand at a time until you reach the bottom layer where the loot is hidden.
Breed Two Adult Sniffers
Alternatively, you can breed two adult sniffers with torch flower seeds to get a sniffer egg. Torchflower seeds are another rare item that can only be obtained by hatching a sniffer egg first. We will explain how to do that in the next section.
How to Hatch a Sniffer Egg
Once you have a sniffer egg, you need to place it on the ground somewhere. It will take some time for the egg to hatch, depending on the block it is placed on. If you place it on any block other than moss, it will take 20 minutes for the egg to hatch.
If you place it on moss, it will take only 10 minutes. In the case of a turtles egg, you can speed up the hatching process by using bone meal on the egg. This will reduce the hatching time by 10%. You can also use a dispenser with bone meal to automate this process.
When the egg hatches, a baby sniffer will emerge from it. A baby sniffer is called a snifflet, and it has a bigger head than an adult sniffer. It will take 40 minutes (or two in-game days) for a snifflet to grow up into an adult sniffer.
What Do Sniffers Eat
Sniffers are herbivorous animals that only eat torchflower seeds. Torchflower seeds are special seeds that can grow into torch flowers, which are plants that emit light and can be used as torches.
You can get torch flower seeds by hatching a sniffer egg or by letting a sniffer dig them up from the ground. Sniffers have an amazing sense of smell that allows them to sniff out ancient seeds from dirt, grass, podzol, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, moss, mud, or muddy mangrove root blocks.
When a sniffer finds an ancient seed, it will sploot (lie down with its legs stretched out) and use its nose to dig into the ground until it gets either Torchflower seeds or a Pitcher pod. A pitcher pod is another plant that can trap small mobs inside it and digest them over time.
Sniffers have an eight-minute cooldown after digging up something before they can dig again. They also remember the last 20 locations they dug up so they won’t dig there anymore.
You can feed torch flower seeds to sniffers by right-clicking on them with the seeds in your hand. This will heal them for two hearts if injured or send them into love mode if they are healthy.
How to Breed Sniffers
You can get a sniffer egg by breeding two adult sniffers using two Torchflowers. When two adult sniffers are in love mode and close together, they will breed and produce a sniffer egg as an item. You can then pick up the egg and place it somewhere else to hatch it.
Sniffers have a 10-20 minutes cooldown after breeding before they can breed again. You will earn one to seven experience points when you breed two sniffers.
How to Tame Sniffers
Unfortunately, sniffers cannot be tamed like other animals in Minecraft. They will not follow you around or protect you from enemies. They are passive and independent creatures that will wander around and sniff the ground.
However, you can use a lead to attach them to a fence post or drag them along with you. You can also use a boat or a minecart to transport them across long distances.
You should also build a fence around your sniffers to prevent them from wandering off or getting attacked by hostile mobs. Sniffers are vulnerable to fire, lava, cacti, fall damage, and drowning, so be careful where you place them.
Conclusion
Sniffers are cute and useful mobs that can help you find rare plants in Minecraft. They are also fun to watch and interact with. However, they are not easy to get, as you need to find their eggs and hatch them yourself.
